Why embattled Koffi Olomide concerts in South Africa were cancelled

Koffi Olomide was slated to perform at Shimmy Beach Club on June 30, but a short tweet from the club confirmed that his concerts have been cancelled.

A Twitter account had launched a massive online campaign to have Koffi kicked out of South Africa. The campaign bore fruits as they had his performances stopped while his visa was revoked and effectively kicked out of South Africa.

The Selfie hit maker has had trouble with women rights groups after he was accused of statutory rape in France. He was convicted of that offence and slapped with two-year suspended sentence. It also emerged that the crooner had been sexually assualting his dancers between 2002 and 2006 andwereat one point held in Paris against their will.
In 2016, Koffi Olomide was kicked out ofKenya after he kicked his dancer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. He was arrested and locked up at  JKIA Police Station before former Interior Minister the late Gen Joseph Nkaissery ordered his deportation.
He has never performed in the country ever since. He had been lined up for a concert in Kakamega by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya in 2018but  he didnt show up despite recording promotional videos.
The Congolese crooner has a long history of run-ins with the law. In 2012, he was given a 3-month suspended sentence after assaulting his producer. Then last year he was arrested in Zambia after he allegedly assaulted a photographer.
