Black Jubil wins Nakuru Guinness Night Football


Black Jubil Football Club thrashed the fans favourite Pida Football Club five goals to nil to claim the Nakuru Guinness Night Football five aside regional championship in the latest regional event in Nakuru.

The inspirational Black Jubil captain Dennis Owiti led his team to the historic feat after scoring a hattrick in the second half to assist his team win the tournament. The first two goals by the team were scored by Simon Simuyu and Sharon Auma respectively in the first half.

The fans favourite Pida Football Club could not be able to recover from the two goals that were scored consecutively in the first half.

In the second half, Pida FC goalkeeper Javis Mukaya stepped out of his box to give out a penalty for infringement of the rules of the game. The rules state that if a goalkeeper steps out of his penalty area, the opposing team are awarded a penalty.

Dennis Owiti stepped forward and converted the penalty for his first goal of the game sending Pida FC goalkeeper Javis Mukaya the wrong way. His second goal came from a direct free-kick where he caught the goalkeeper napping at his goal post. His third goal and fifth goal for the team came after a clearance that was not dealt with the Pida FC defence which hammered the team’s hopes of having a comeback in the finals.

The Black Jubil captain, Dennis Owiti said, “As the leader of the team, it had to be my duty to lead from the front. I am glad the goals helped my team to clinch the regional title. I now hope that the experience we have gained from the games will assist us in the national finals in the few days to come. We will prepare adequately to ensure my team clinch the ticket to proceed to Nigeria.”

En route to the finals, Black Jubil beat Machangaa FC four goals to nil, they then overcame Nakuru United in the Quarterfinals during a penalty shoot-out where they won two goals to one. This is after a goalless draw after the normal regulation time. Phiry Ochieng converted the last penalty to earn the team a slot in the semi-final stage.

In the semi-final stage, they then beat Walk Youth FC three goals to two via a penalty shoot-out. The game had ended in a one-all draw.

In the third-place play-off, The Walk Youth FC won two goals to one against Shabaab FC. This is after they had drawn two-all in the normal regulation time.

Each match was played for 20 minutes with each half being 10 minutes.

The winners walked away with Kshs. 50,000, while the first runners up won Kshs. 20,000 in the regional finals. The next night football event will be held in Nairobi County.

The 12-week campaign dubbed ‘Guinness Night Football’ is aiming to give consumers an opportunity to represent Kenya in a pan-African tournament in Lagos, Nigeria.
